I shut my book and stretched my arms as I decided I needed a break from studying.  I was already so exhausted from the normal day’s work.  Most days began with me running down the cobblestone streets at four in the morning to bring back buckets of water for my mother as she began gathering and lighting the firewood.  It took us over an hour to even get a pot of water boiling.  After helping my mother cook the food we needed to sell that day, I would go to school.  Determined for a better life, I never let anything get in the way of having perfect scores on anything and everything I did through school.  My cold metal chair made a scraping noise as it slide across the dirt floor of our one-roomed house.  I blew out the candle and walked outside where the sun was just starting to set.  As I stood on the rickety wooden steps my father built, I looked out over the lush cliffs that surrounded our house.  Across the abyss and in the distance I could see a magnificent waterfall.  Its powerful flow was especially beautiful today as it glistened in the setting sun.  I was certain that there was no sight more breathtaking in the whole world, and I was lucky enough to live where I could see it everyday.  Although the last time I saw that waterfall was over 30 years ago, it remains the source of my inspiration for the short stories and poems I write.
